VIRTUAL SALON: CINCINNATI

Join us Second Monday evenings for our monthly virtual conversation from Cincinnati hosted by Naimah Bilal, Garry "Gee" Horton and Megan Trischler. This month we welcome:

  • Brandi Lynette Blessett, Ph.D. is an associate professor and Director of the Master of Public Administration program at the University of Cincinnati. She is a native of Detroit, Michigan where she spent most of her life. For many reasons, Detroit remains close to her heart and will forever be home!  Dr. Blessett earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and holds a Masters in Educational Leadership from Wayne State University in Detroit. Her dissertation was titled “Dispersion or Re-segregation: A Spatial and Temporal Analysis of Public Policies and their Impact on Urban African American Mobility.” This work serves as the foundation for her research interests which includes, but is not limited to: administrative responsibility, social equity, community development, and voter disenfranchisement.

  • Tia Sherèe Gaynor, Ph.D. is an assistant professor in the Department of Political Science. Her research focuses on issues related to social (in)justice, cultural competency, and social equity within a U.S. and global context, particularly as it relates to underrepresented and marginalized populations. Under the W.E.B. DuBois Program of Research on Race and Crime, Dr. Gaynor (along with research colleague Brandi Blessett, Ph.D.) was awarded $150,000 for her project titled “Intersectional Subjection and Law Enforcement: Examining Perceptions Held by LGBTQ People of Color in New Orleans, LA”. She holds a Ph.D. and MPA from the School of Public Affairs and Administration, at Rutgers University Newark.

  • Lauren Eylise’s genre-defying music can only be accurately categorized as eclectic-soul. She is unapologetic, autonomously sensual and vulnerably transparent in her music and presence. Lauren Eylise’s emergent repertoire has drawn streams from her homeland in Cincinnati to New York, Germany, France, and South Africa. She has opened stages for the likes of Patti Labelle, Erykah Badu, Jidenna, Tank and The Bangas Yasiin Bey, Talib Kweli, Train, John Legend, Matt Kearney, Raheem Devaughn and many more. laureneylise.com
