About Our Guests:

Tawana Petty is a mother, organizer, poet, and author. She is a long-time social justice organizer whose work focuses on racial justice and equity issues, as well as advocating for data and digital privacy rights. Tawana is the founding Director of Petty Propolis, a Black women led artist incubator, which organizes social justice initiatives, workshops and artist retreats. She serves as a convening member of the Detroit Digital Justice Coalition, and is an alumni fellow of Stanford’s Digital Civil Society Lab and the Detroit Equity Action Lab. In 2021, Tawana was named one of 100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics.

Erin Keith is Managing Policy Counsel for the Detroit Justice Center (DJC), a non-profit law firm working alongside communities to create economic opportunities, transform the justice system, and promote equitable and just cities. She leads the organization’s policy strategy and analyzes legislation to remove legal barriers in the criminal legal system. Erin formerly served as a staff attorney in the Legal Services and Advocacy Practice (LSAP) where she focused on criminal legal system reform through a racial equity lens, by providing direct representation to indigent and/or formerly incarcerated clients. Erin has also led the organization’s youth empowerment efforts, by developing Know Your Rights workshops and other outreach programming for local students.
