Detroit Deserves Better: Real Talk about New Detroit Development

This week we are delighted to welcome home David Schon, Esq., passionate city ambassador and founder of Detroiters in D.C. A partner at Nixon Peabody, David is the co-chair of the firm's Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit team, where he represents investors as well as non-profit and for-profit project sponsors in Detroit and nationwide.

Like many longtime Detroit lovers, David is conflicted. He is delighted by all the new investment & development in the city, especially projects that prioritize historic preservation. But he's also concerned about losing what makes Detroit unique -- and accepting mediocre architecture instead of insisting on outstanding design for projects serving people of all income levels.

How do we invest in Detroit in a way that enhances what's unique about the city, and not make it like everyplace else? How can Detroit use what's left of its historic fabric to create the city we want for all Detroiters in every part of the city? Are there enough voices demanding better design?

Join us in the parlor for a critical conversation about a city we all love.

  • Hosted by Chase Cantrell & Claire Nelson
